Caleigh

From Star Wars Roleplay Planet Naboo Wiki

The Star Kingdom of Caleigh is one of the permier military forces within the galaxy.

History Caleigh began as a slow boat (sublight ship, also known as an interstellar ark) colony sent from Karonius. It was particularly well planned, however, and money was left on Karonius to protect the colony from claim jumpers. During the 640 years that it took the colony ship Argonu to travel to Caleigh, developments in gravity technology had made hyper travel safe. Therefore, the arriving colonists found themselves greeted by employees already building infrastructure on Caleigh, the most temperate of the three habitable planets orbiting the two stars in the system. Not long thereafter, there was a war with the indigenous population of Obsidian Men and Blue Tuskmen which killed more than half of the population, setting the colony back substantially. (karonius was destroyed utterly 14,000 years ago when its sun went supernova).

It was in reaction to that circumstance that the aristocratically dominated monarchical polity was begun; new colonists invited to make up for the losses of the war were not intended to be part of the power structure. These colonists were divided into two sets, those who could pay for some or all of their passage (Yeomen) and those couldn't (Zero-Balancers). This aristocratic dominance scheme went awry when Elizabeth I, the second monarch, proved to be better at political maneuvering than the nobility; after her, the SKC had an effective monarchy, not merely a constitutional figurehead.

Political structure The SKC has long been a constitutional monarchy. Its current ruler is King Antonius Marillius.

Parliament consists of an upper house (the Lords) whose membership is hereditary, comprised of peers accepted to the House and Cadets, as well as peers' heirs. There is a lower house (the Commons) whose members are elected and who cannot be members of the aristocracy.

The Crown is the Head of State, and appoints a government from leading political parties in Parliament. The Crown's executive power is exercised by the responsible Cabinet, led by a Prime Minister who must command a working majority in the House of Lords.

Policy making in the Star Kingdom is strongly affected by policy conflicts amongst the positions of the major parties. An example is the annexation of Kamino, the planet of the cloners. It could not be innitially made a part of the Star Kingdom, as that was opposed by the Liberal Party and the Conservative Association. Instead a protectorate was proclaimed over the planet which was barely acceptable to a Parliamentary majority. Another example was the declaration of war against the Necorians after their attack on the Naboo. The Conservative Association refused to vote for the declaration. The Liberal Party was opposed to the declaration even after the attack on the grounds that violence never settled anything, and was, in any case, almost always illegitimate.

Caleigh's six major political parties are:

The Centrist Party, which favors a tough anti-New Ryloth foreign policy, a conservative domestic policy of fiscal restraint, and a policy of moderation on most other issues. The Centrists have been behind Caleigh's naval expansion and have been the driving force behind the foundation of the Alliance. The Crown Loyalists, whose main concern, and litmus test for any measure, is the preservation of the Crown's power. They are strongest on Roen due to the historical conflict between landowners and the majority population there. The Crown Loyalists usually form coalitions with the Centrists. The Liberal Party, which seeks to implement some welfare state measures and fundamentally distrusts reliance on military action. Their paramount tenet in foreign policy is that ¨violence never solves anything¨. The Conservative Association, a reactionary political faction which actively resists any measure that might threaten the privileges of the aristocracy generally and the House of Lords in particular. Their foreign policy is isolationist (as expansion threatens to dilute their influence). The Conservative Association is unique among the major parties in that it commands virtually no public support, and is notable solely because of its member Lords. The Progressive Party, which opposes deficit spending like the Centrists, but wishes to reduce military spending and has little interest in foreign policy. The "New Men" Party, a faction which opposes the concentration of power in the hands of the aristocracy and "the powers that be". They are a wild card in Caleigh politics, siding with whichever faction they believe will favor their interests in Parliament.

It is inhabited by the native sentient species Kaminoans. Military

The primary branch of the Star Kingdom's military is the Caleigh Royal Navy. Angariam Island is its naval academy. The CRN is the senior service in terms of sheer budget and necessity; control of systems and planetary orbitals all but precludes other military action in many circumstances. With a five hundred year tradition of service, the CRN has amassed considerable institutional experience and knowledge, and has evolved from its beginnings as a system defense force, past its lengthy formative years focusing primarily on commerce protection for the Caleigh merchant marine, and now is regarded as one of the premier navies in the galaxy.

Backed by the significant resources Caleigh commands, the CRN is further powered by strongly pursued and implemented research and development programs. Particularly since the start of the Wars, the CRN has seen its capabilities grow explosively compared to what had been the technological cutting edge prior to the onset of hostilities.

Other branches of the Caleigh military are the Caleigh Royal Marine Corps and the Royal Caleigh Army. These are professional ground forces which act in concert with the CRN in actions to secure enemy worlds, space stations, and ships. The Marines are charged with maintaining security, providing reaction forces onboard CRN ships and with spearheading planetary assaults, whereas the Army is tasked with defending the surface of the Star Kingdom's worlds, reinforcing initial attacks by the Navy and Marines and providing garrison troops for occupied planets.

Caleigh is located just west of Naboo along the Galactic plane, just outside the Chommel sector.

C'lev'nYa is the brightest star in the constellation Ornista, the fifth brightest star in the night sky and the second brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is a relatively nearby star at only 25.3 light-years from Naboo, and one of the most luminous stars in the Sun's neighborhood

Roen is one of three habitable planets in the C'lev'nYa system, the home system of the Star Kingdom of Caleigh. It is one of two planets of C'lev'nYa B and the only habitable one, with a planetary population of 575 million inhabitants, plus another 298 million living in C'lev'nYa-B's asteroid belts. It has a very considerable axial tilt, leading to extreme seasonal weather. The planet's environment is not very pleasant, with extremely harsh winters with snowfall measured in meters. As a result, natives of Roen tend to be a very tough bunch, and also a little contemptuous of people who were not born on Rouen.

With a sparse population, C'lev'nYa-B's single habitable planet was the least hospitable and last settled of the C'lev'nYa System's three Earth-like worlds with its notorious winters. On the other hand, Roen's weather has made the planet the Star Kingdom's leading ski resort, with tourism accounting for twenty percent of the gross planetary product. Roen's economy is mainly agrarian, although the extraction of minerals from C'lev'nYa-B's asteroid belts serves as the base of a sprawling space industry.

Roen is much more sparsely populated than either Lyon or Caleigh, but a higher percentage of her population joins the Caleigh Royal Navy. Its society is very rough-edged, and people tend to view Caleighans and Lyonians as soft. In Caleighan politics natives of Roen are considered to be conservative royalists.

The commoner population of Roen holds a significant degree of distrust and resentment towards the planetary aristocracy, which had its peak with the so-called "Roen Uprising"; a series of low-level conflicts early in the history of the Star Kingdom between the aristocracy and the commoners regarding the ownership and use of lands. As a consequence, the commoners of Roen are staunch supporters of the Crown as defender of the commoner population against the aristocracy, while the planetary aristocracy is mostly of conservative political leanings (supportive of the rule and privileges of the Star Kingdom's nobility).

Several references are made to "Roen granite," presumably a superiorly-dense mineral composite. Rouen is also famous for the Kodiak Maximus, a species of large carnivores with highly valued fur.

Lyon is the fourth planet of

C'lev'nYa-binary star system. It is a heavy gravity world with gravity 1.35 times that of Earth. Its orbit gives it a long year compared to Terra, with cool if temperate summers and long extremely severe winters with very heavy snowfalls. Lyon has a planetary population of 1,048 million. The economy of Lyon is based upon mining, forestry and animal husbandry.

Lyon is part of the Star Kingdom of Caleigh and is also the native planet of a sentient species: Q'll'a. Native life is protected by Lyon Forestry Service (LFS) and its rangers who are responsible for approximately 1/3 of Lyon which has been exclusively reserved for native life. The LFS and the Q'll'a corporate claim to their third of the surface of Lyon is authorized under the Ninth Amendment to the Caleigh Constitution.

Lyonians tend to be the most socially and sexually conservative inhabitants of the Star Kingdom, and often are openly contemptuous of and disgusted by the liberal mores of the Star Kingdom's capital world of Caleigh
